Saint Grand ups ante to $1,400 donations

Dec 4, 2018

Saint Grand is back.

On Dec. 1, the anonymous and affectionately-named donor dropped a $1,400 cash donation into a red kettle at Lunds & Byerlys in Roseville. Since then, Saint Grand struck eight more times at several different grocery stores in Roseville, Plymouth and Arden Hills, donating $1,400 in cash to each kettle.

Saint Grand has been dropping bundles of crisp $100 bills into Twin Cities kettles throughout every Christmas season since 2011. His or her identity remains unknown.

This year’s $1,400 donations mark the beginning of an exciting trend: The serial giver’s gifts have been growing by $100 per donation every Christmas season since 2015.

Consider the following:

  • 2014: Seven gifts of $1,000
  • 2015: Nine gifts of $1,100
  • 2016: Seven gifts of $1,200
  • 2017: Eight gifts of $1,300

“Is Saint Grand’s heart growing larger, or is he or she just trying to keep up with inflation?” pondered Lt. Col. Lonneal Richardson, leader of The Salvation Army Northern Division. “All we know for sure is that The Salvation Army appreciates Saint Grand’s incredible generosity.”

Over the last eight Christmas seasons, Saint Grand has donated more than $127,700 in cash to The Salvation Army.

The Twin Cities Salvation Army hopes to raise $11.9 million during its 2018 Christmas Campaign, which runs through Dec. 31. About $2.5 million of the goal is expected to come from kettle donations.
