Roseville, Minn. – More than a dozen Salvation Army youth basketball players (from the Payne Ave. Salvation Army) will have a rare opportunity to learn their sport from the best on Sunday, Aug. 28,
The girls – ranging in age from 5th-8th grade – have been invited to the first Minnesota Lynx Insports Day. They will be among about 75 young women to participate in a two hour clinic at the Lynx practice facility. Later that night they will also be special guests at Target Center to watch the Lynx take on the Seattle Storm.
“We are so excited for this opportunity,” said Lt. Col. Lonneal Richardson, commander of The Salvation Army’s Northern Division. “These young ladies will be inspired by these professional coaches and then have the chance to watch a professional game.”
The Olympic gold medal-winning Minnesota Lynx and the InSports Foundation hope to make this clinic an annual event and inspire more young women to pursue sports like basketball.
