Worship and Service Center under construction in Albert Lea
Albert Lea, Minn. – The Salvation Army is investing in Albert Lea for the long haul, as it undertakes a top-to-bottom remodel of the Worship and Service Center on Court Street.
“There hasn’t been a major upgrade to the building in 50 years,” explained Major Louise Delano-Sharpe, Albert Lea Salvation Army administrator. “In order for us to continue to provide the programs and services to the best of our ability at this location, improvements need to be made.”
The Albert Lea Salvation Army has been carefully saving for the improvements over the past several years. Additionally, a grant from The Salvation Army’s divisional headquarters will help pay for more than half of the work that needs to be done.
A construction crew has already started to repair a leaky gym roof and replaced the old carpeting. The new look will also include a fresh coat of paint, along with landscaping to improve the building’s curb appeal.
“We considered moving, but that’s even more costly,” said Major Delano-Sharpe. “We figured with a few upgrades we can stay here another 50 years.”
Once the remodel is complete a celebration and open house will be held to honor the achievement.
The Albert Lea Salvation Army also recently received a vehicle upgrade. The twelve passenger van was also provided through a grant from divisional headquarters in Roseville.
