The Salvation Army, Polaris support Orlando
Roseville, Minn. – Salvation Army Disaster Services teams continue to support law enforcement and grieving families in Orlando, Fla., following the deadliest mass shooting in American history.
President Obama and Vice President Biden are scheduled to visit Orlando today, and a Salvation Army mobile kitchen will be there to serve food and water to law enforcement and spectators at the event.
Salvation Army teams remain on the scene at Pulse Nightclub, providing food and drinks, along with emotional and spiritual care.
“We have worked with the local, state, and federal teams to ensure the safety of the personnel on the ground,” said Major Ted Morris, Salvation Army Orlando Area Commander. “With the heat index reaching into triple digits, people need to stay hydrated. Heat exhaustion is a serious concern.”
The Salvation Army has also mobilized three Polaris off-road vehicles (pictured) to deliver water, sports drinks, and food to police officers and investigators around the area. The vehicles are part of a nationwide Rescue and Relief Fleet that Polaris donated to The Salvation Army.
With streets blocked off to traffic, the Polaris vehicles have allowed teams to get resources to law enforcement more efficiently, ensuring the safety of more than three hundred local, state, and federal personnel.
