Shelter guest writes, performs gripping rap music (video)
(Watch video) – Christopher Davy has talent. The 45-year-old writes original rap music and performs it with unmistakable passion.
Davy is one of hundreds of people who stay at The Salvation Army Harbor Light Shelter in Minneapolis on any given night. His rhymes reflect the turbulent lives he and many of his peers have endured.
His music also embodies hope. In his rap “Together we stand, divided we fall,” Davy professes: I’m not on the block selling rock, smoking weed, pimping girls. I’d rather do something positive. Get high, go to jail – that’s not the way I want to live.

His rap also tells his personal story, including why he writes: Wrote a song for my boys again. Told the last time, God forgave me for my sin. It was a testimony of my life. I put my pride to the side, started doing what was right.
Davy has stayed at Harbor Light, off and on, ever since he moved to Minnesota from Chicago in 2009. Right now he is thinking of moving to northern Minnesota to live with a friend.
“Temptation and trouble ain’t there,” he said.
He is thankful for The Salvation Army’s support every time he has lost a job or housing.
“They supply things – food, shower, a place to sleep – to people who ain’t got nothing,” he said.
