‘Saint Grand’ is back and even grander
Saint Grand is back, and making even grander gifts. For the fifth year in a row, the anonymous donor affectionately referred to as Saint Grand, is dropping big donations into Salvation Army kettles. The gifts always come the same way, in a bundle of 10, crisp $100 bills.
But this year, Saint Grand has apparently given us a cost of living increase, adding an extra $100 bill, for a total of $1,100 with each donation. Then, on Saturday, Dec. 5, he or she added a little more, wrapping the $100 bills in a one dollar bill, for a total of $1,101.
So far, Saint Grand has donated ten times this year, since Nov. 27. The latest two drops were made on Dec. 5 in Roseville, one at Lunds and Byerlys and the other at Cub Foods. Both donations were $1,101.
“We are so thrilled to have Saint Grand not only back, but blessing us with $1,100 donations this year,” said Major Jeff Strickler, Twin Cities commander. “We have an ambitious goal to raise $11.6 million dollars by the end of the year, so we hope Saint Grand continues to surprise us.”
To date, the Twin Cities Salvation Army has raised about $3.5 million of it’s $11.6 million Christmas goal.
Saint Grand made a splash in 2014, leaving $10,000 at a single kettle in Bloomington, and then followed up with seven more $1000 donations throughout the Christmas season.
Since 2011, Saint Grand has donated $89,002 in cash to The Salvation Army.
