Registration opens May 1 for MOST Amazing Race
Roseville, Minn. – You could call it the event that puts the “fun” in fundraising. For the 10th year in a row, The Salvation Army’s MOST Amazing Race is back. The winning team takes home $5,000, courtesy of CenterPoint Energy, while all the money raised goes to food and housing programs in the Twin Cities.
Registration opens May 1, and if you act fast, you can save. For the first week only (through May 7), registration is $10 a person, after that, its $25 each. The race is an official Aquatennial event on July 25, kicking off at the Stone Arch Bridge in Minneapolis. Sign up at AmazingRaceMN.org.
- The race includes a qualifying round in the morning that narrows the field down to 30 teams who compete in a 4-6 hour race around Minneapolis, beginning at the Stone Arch Bridge at noon.
- The race is inspired by the TV show, with teams completing physical and mental challenges in order to move on.
- Challenges are top-secret until race day, but past events include: jumping off a 25 foot platform onto a giant airbag, eating dried crickets and half a pound of gummy bears, picking up “rescued” food to deliver to a Salvation Army food shelf and racing down a field in a life-sized hamster ball.
- It’s a fast-paced, fun-filled day…and it’s all for a great cause. Since the race began in 2006, it’s raised $550,000 for Salvation Army food and housing programs in the Twin Cities. The goal is to raise another $100,000 this year.
- Each team must raise a minimum of $250. The top ten fundraisers automatically win a spot in the race, while the rest compete in a qualifying round the morning of the race.
The MOST Amazing Race is presented by CenterPoint Energy, with additional support provided by KDWB, KOOL 108, KFAN, Metro Transit and Mattress Firm.
