Man writes powerful thank you letter

Nov 14, 2016

The Salvation Army Northern Division recently received a thank you letter that was so touching, we had to pass it around the office.

The letter was written by a man who’d been laid off a year earlier. He wrote about all the ways The Salvation Army helped him and his family during the toughest year of their lives.

The letter also included a $200 donation. “We wanted to give back so that you can continue doing the Lord’s work,” the man wrote.

His letter illustrates how your donations to The Salvation Army are a lifeline for families in crisis.

Here is the letter*:

It is with much gratitude and thanksgiving that I am writing this letter.

On July 1, 2015, I was laid off from a professional management job. My wife and I took a hard look at our budget and reduced our expenses as much as we could. I took a transition job at a hardware store to supplement my unemployment.

We started coming to your food shelf regularly. Through it, my family had a variety of good foods to eat, and we were able to balance our monthly budget while I was on unemployment. Our kids were also blessed by the Christmas and birthday gifts they received from you.

I am happy to testify that I am no longer working at the hardware store. The Lord has provided me with the best job I’ve ever had – one that uses my degree and all my certifications. We have not taken on any new debt, and all our bills are current.

We are so blessed by my new job and how God has provided for us in the last year. Keep up the Lord’s good work.

The man received help at one of The Salvation Army Northern Division’s 22 food shelves in Minnesota and North Dakota. Thanks to your donations, these food shelves distributed about 186,000 bags of groceries last year.

You can help hungry families by donating now or signing up to bell ring this holiday season.
