Grocery chain Cub fights for good
Christmas just wouldn’t be the same without Cub. For well over a decade, the grocery chain has been one of the Twin Cities Salvation Army’s staunchest allies in the fight for good.
This Christmas season, the company’s support began when it donated $20,000 in matching funds (pictured above) for all kettle donations made Dec. 16-17 during Kettle Kickoff weekend.
“The snow is starting to fall and you see the red kettle and hear the bell – it evokes the sounds of the season and it’s exciting to be a part of it,” said Chad Ferguson, Cub president (pictured during a radio interview at Kickoff on Ice).
Cub’s support will continue throughout the entire kettle season; the company is allowing The Salvation Army to collect donations outside 77 of its stores. During any given Christmas season, The Salvation Army typically raises about $1 million worth of kettle donations at Cub stores. That’s more than a third of all kettle donations raised in the Twin Cities.
Cub has been supporting The Salvation Army for ages, including hosting several Rock the Red Kettle events, providing financial support for a record-setting bell ringing attempt, and much more.
“Our partnership with The Salvation Army is so important to us,” Ferguson said. “It’s our way to give back to the community.”
Outside of the Christmas season, Cub comes through for The Salvation Army time and again by providing food and gift cards for our promotional events throughout the year. And just a few months ago, Cub donated $5,000 to The Salvation Army in celebration of the company’s 50th anniversary.
“The Salvation Army is grateful to Cub for standing beside us in our battle against poverty,” said Lt. Col. Lonneal Richardson, leader of The Salvation Army Northern Division. “We deeply appreciate their loyalty and generosity.”
