Donate school supplies at Shopko in Minn. through Aug. 7
It’s early July, and school supplies have already hit the store shelves. You’re probably not ready to shop for your own family, but the early back to school shopping season leaves plenty of time to help a less fortunate neighbor.
Thanks to a partnership between The Salvation Army and Shopko, there is a way you can help.
From now until Aug. 7, Shopko stores across Minnesota (see complete list at bottom) will collect your school supply donations and your local Salvation Army will give the donated supplies to families in your community. To donate, visit Shopko stores and look for donation bins similar to the photo at right. 
“We look forward to this opportunity every year,” said Lt. Col. Robert Thomson, Salvation Army Northern Division commander. “We see the need every day. Thanks to Shopko’s ‘Tools for Schools’ program, hundreds of kids will be better prepared and ready to go when that first day of school arrives.”
By providing backpacks, notebooks, pencils and other school essentials, you can help ensure that children and parents are able to focus on the excitement of that first day rather than the nervousness of being unprepared. With each gift, you’re providing a little peace of mind to families in our community.
A list of needed supplies can be found on the donation boxes located at your local Shopko stores.
Financial gifts to purchase supplies can also be mailed to The Salvation Army in your community, or you can donate online to give a student supplies.
Can you picture it? Every student lined up at school with full backpacks and big smiles, ready to learn. It’s thanks to you, partnerships with businesses like Shopko, and the help of our community that we can bring smiles to the faces of students and their families.
