Devotional: A time for everything
Written by Craig Dirkes, writer/photographer for The Salvation Army Northern Division
And just like that, the lazy (or not-so-lazy) days of summer are gone. In their place: less sunlight, lots of winter prep work, and the grind of a new school year.
If summer’s departure and the busyness of fall are getting you down, don’t let them. Instead, use the changing seasons as a fresh start or a chance to try something new. Mend a broken relationship from your past. Volunteer somewhere. Knit a winter hat. Rake your neighbor’s leaves. Afterward, relax by taking a walk in the crisp autumn air.
After all, life isn’t always about sunshine and hammocks. It’s about staying positive and active, and taking life as it comes. As Ecclesiastes 3 tells us: “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens” verse 1 (NIV). “A time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance” verse 4 (NIV).
No matter what season it is, always remember to rejoice in life’s simple pleasures, and to thank God for the blessings He has given you.

Life is busy, and it’s easy to get overwhelmed. The next time you feel overloaded, stop what you’re doing and pray. Trust that God will see you through your burden and bring calm to your life. “And who of you by being worried can add a single hour to his life?” Matthew 6:27 (NIV).
