COVID-19

Mar 14, 2020

With COVID-19 now declared a pandemic, The Salvation Army Northern Division has significantly increased our preparation for an impending outbreak in Minnesota and North Dakota.

We have ramped up our efforts to mitigate the spread of the virus among our staff, volunteers, and program participants. Extra precautions are being taken at our homeless shelters, where close living conditions mean infectious disease can easily spread among residents. We have instituted additional cleaning throughout the day, with an elevated focus on high-traffic areas. (Learn more about how to prevent the spread of COVID-19.)

We are also forming plans to elevate our service for working-class families who may be temporarily laid off due to COVID-19. We anticipate they will need additional assistance with food, rent, and utilities.

Ensuring the safety of those who depend on The Salvation Army’s programs and services, along with the safety of staff and volunteers, is our utmost priority.

“We are in constant contact with public health officials to determine how The Salvation Army can serve as many people as possible, in the safest way possible,” said Lt. Col. Lonneal Richardson, leader of The Salvation Army Northern Division.

The individuals and families we serve daily will feel the impacts of this crisis on a greater level than most. We need support from our communities to be able to continue to provide these vulnerable populations with adequate support throughout this pandemic.

“Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.” –Galatians 6:2
