Volunteers help on Comcast Cares Day Saturday

Apr 23, 2015 | by Julie Borgen

Roseville, Minn. – An army of Comcast employees will be donating their time and talents to The Salvation Army at 401 7th St. W. in St. Paul on Saturday, April 25 from 8 a.m.–noon. Members of the media are invited to cover this event.

Nearly 70 volunteers will paint the lobby, two offices and three classrooms. Plus, they plan to clean and organize the gym, and prep the outdoor fence for painting.

The West 7th Salvation Army serves a free hot breakfast every weekday, offers a Friday Food Fair, and operates thriving preschool and after-school programs. It provides a variety of social services in English, Spanish and Hmong.

“We are so very proud to partner with the Twin Cities Salvation Army to help improve our community,” said Mary Beth Schubert, Vice President of Corporate Affairs, Comcast-Twin Cities. “Investing in our communities has been a vital part of the Comcast culture since the company was founded more than 50 years ago.”

This is the 14th anniversary of Comcast Cares Day. The tradition began in 2001 with about 6,000 volunteers working at 110 different projects and the event has grown every year since. In 2015, nearly 100,000 volunteers are expected to participate at more than 700 sites around the world.

“Comcast’s dedication to volunteering is a great example of how local companies and their employees can help transform a community,” said Major Jeff Stickler, Twin Cities Salvation Army Commander. “Not only are they giving us their time today, they are great partners to us all year round.”
