‘Idol’ singer credits Salvation Army
(Watch video) – The world is now discovering what The Salvation Army in Brooklyn Park, Minn., has always known: singer Dahlia Jones is a superstar.
Jones, 20, is a contestant on FOX’s final season of American Idol, earning a ticket to Hollywood after her successful audition in Denver, Colo.
Jones says she owes her talents to God, and she credits the Brooklyn Park Salvation Army with helping her grow as a Christian. She started working there as a volunteer youth leader when she was 16, returning every summer since.
“I learned so much about Jesus and I loved everyone who worked there – they really became part of my family,” Jones explained. “I’m happy to say that The Salvation Army played a huge part in me being born again.”

Major Nancy Mead, former Brooklyn Park Salvation Army administrator, said Jones is a bright light who lifts up everyone she meets.
“I am just so proud of this young lady,” she said. “Dahlia has been such a wonderful part of our Salvation Army family. I am so thrilled to see her succeeding on American Idol.”
While Jones describes singing as her life, she says the competition is just another way to glorify God.
“God has blessed me with this opportunity to do what I love to do, and I can’t give Him enough praise,” she said. “I am so happy and blessed to be a part of this final season.”
American Idol airs Wednesday nights on FOX.
“I would like ya’ll to join me on my walk with Jesus, because He is the ultimate idol,” Jones said. “I want to uplift people. If I can just touch one heart and never sing again, that would be enough for me.”
