A letter of thanks after big Brainerd storms
The Brainerd Salvation Army‘s disaster services team stepped up in countless ways in recent years. After a storm toppled thousands of trees in 2015, the Army served hundreds of meals to families that spent days cleaning up without electricity. This summer, after several storms ripped through the region, The Salvation Army fed workers, volunteers and families during the clean up.
The Salvation Army’s efforts did not go unnoticed.
“I cannot express how important it has been to know that I can make one phone call and in a couple of hours The Salvation army truck will be pulling up right where we asked and begin feeding,” penned Kerry Swenson, Cass County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Management Director.
Swenson’s letter was to Lt. Grant Holloway, Brainerd Salvation Army administrator. In it, he described how Cass and Crow Wing counties can always rely on The Salvation Army to help during times of crisis.
Additionally, Swenson wrote that he appreciates how The Salvation Army’s mobile kitchen is available during emergency training sessions, which is especially helpful during the annual ice training session.
“They (first responders) know when that cold morning is over there will be a hot meal, hot coffee and hot chocolate if they choose,” Swenson wrote. “The organization goes above and beyond.”
The Salvation Army works closely with local law enforcement to provide help whenever there is a need. We appreciate their partnership and are grateful for the kind words Swenson expressed.
