Warm winter coats distributed to thousands
Written by Emma Roos, social media manager at The Salvation Army Northern Division
Throughout this month The Salvation Army Northern Division has distributed warm winter coats to thousands of families around Minnesota and North Dakota.
During this time of year, many families are bracing for the long winter season and all of the extra expenses that go along with it. To help alleviate some of that stress, Salvation Army locations provide new and gently used winter coats for children of all ages through our Coats for Kids program. Some locations even offer hats, mittens and boots.
After the families check in they are assisted by a personal shopper who helps them find the perfect coat.
“I never want a family to feel like they are standing in a social services line,” said Captain Josh Polanco, co-leader of The Salvation Army in Brooklyn Park, Minn., which last week distributed coats to more than 200 families. “Instead, I want them to feel like they are coming to a place where they are going to be loved and cared for.”
More than 500 kids in the northern Twin Cities suburbs are now prepared for the winter season, along with countless others from around Minnesota and North Dakota.
“It’s exciting to share the love of Christ by simply meeting this basic need,” said Calie Budnick, Case Manager at the Brooklyn Park Salvation Army.
