Oct. 10 marks ‘World Homeless Day’

Oct 9, 2018

Every year on Oct. 10, World Homeless Day, people around the globe come together to support those experiencing homelessness and learn how to get involved in the response effort.

The Salvation Army understands that life doesn’t always turn out how we plan and that sometimes we need a little help. That’s why we have almost 50 emergency, transitional and permanent housing options in Minnesota and North Dakota that can help. One of our housing options is The Booth Brown House, a safe place for youth to turn when they have nowhere else to go.

Below are four testimonies from homeless youth in the Twin Cities. Each one is carrying heavy things that can’t fit into a backpack. They carry the loneliness of being ignored, the heartache of being abandoned, and the anxiety of having to fend for themselves. Click the drop-down to read their powerful stories.

How you can help

Poverty is an everyday battle and sometimes, people don’t win. But there is an army made of generous people like you dedicated to fighting to make sure everyone has a safe place to sleep. They’re in every town and every city, and you can join them in their fight for good by giving online or recruiting your own army as a fundraiser on FundraiseForGood.org, or becoming a volunteer bell ringer.
