AT&T donates $40k on Giving Tuesday

Dec 3, 2019

AT&T made a splash on Giving Tuesday, donating a whopping $40,000 to The Salvation Army Harbor Light Center in Minneapolis. The donation helped launch AT&T’s new Believe Twin Cities℠ initiative, which supports homelessness services in Minneapolis and St. Paul.

A press conference was held in Minneapolis (view photos), where AT&T Minnesota President Paul Weirtz thanked The Salvation Army and introduced Lt. Col. Lonneal Richardson, leader of The Salvation Army Northern Division.

“To AT&T, we say thank you,” said Richardson (pictured). “Together, we can address human suffering in our city. As an Army, we can take care of those who are less fortunate in our community.”

Homelessness has reached a record high in Minnesota, according to the most recent study conducted by Wilder Research. The Harbor Light Center plays a critical role in reversing this trend, providing food, shelter, medical care, and other support services for hundreds of people every day.

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey attended the event and voiced his support for Twin Cities charities and businesses that partner to serve people experiencing homelessness.

“There are a whole lot of people out there who will say that we can’t possibly tackle this very difficult issue of homelessness – but you’ve got to believe,” Frey said.

AT&T donated another $60,000 to other local organizations that fight homelessness. The goal of AT&T’s Believe Twin Cities initiative is to work with community leaders and utilize AT&T’s local assets, including financial contributions and employee volunteers, to help end homelessness.

“I’m hopeful that our efforts will encourage other organizations and companies to engage in addressing homelessness in our state,” Weirtz said.

Thousands of hardworking families are battling poverty in Minnesota and North Dakota. You can help them win by donating $25 a month or becoming a bell ringer. Join The Salvation Army this Christmas season and #FightForGood.
