Single father makes major comeback
Michael is a hard-working single father. Before the pandemic struck, he’d spent eight years making an excellent living working in the oilfields of western North Dakota. Sadly, Michael was laid-off early this year. He spent months scrambling to find work but came up empty. Eventually, his savings ran dry.
Michael realized he’d hit financial rock-bottom while he and his kids were baking a loaf of bread.
“All we had to go with the bread was mustard and peanut butter,” Michael said. “That’s all the food we had.”
Thanks to donors like you, Michael was able to stop by his local Salvation Army, ask for help, and bring home several boxes of groceries.
“When I brought home two boxes of food from The Salvation Army, my kids told me it was like Christmas,” Michael said. “It led to better things.”
Michael went on to enroll in a Salvation Army family mentoring program called Pathway of Hope. He met with a Salvation Army case worker every week for several months, with goals to find a job, keep his housing, keep food on the table, and get dental assistance for his sons.
Today, Michael is proud to report that he accomplished all of his goals.
“(The Salvation Army) kept me anchored and helped me reach my goals,” Michael said. “My family is celebrating what’s been happening with God’s plan for us.”
Enlist in Love’s Army by giving a donation or ringing bells at a red kettle. Your gifts of time and money will help Rescue Christmas for people and families struggling to get through the pandemic.
