Help children stay warm: Coats for Kids collection runs Sept. 21–Oct. 7

Sep 15, 2020

The warm temperatures of summer 2020 seemingly disappeared overnight. The mercury is falling, while the number of children in need of a winter coat is rising.

You can help kids stay warm this winter by donating new or gently used coats for children of all ages during this year's Coats for Kids drive, which runs Sept. 21–Oct. 7. Winter accessories such as hats, mittens, boots, and snow pants are also accepted.

Donations can be dropped off during business hours at Spire Credit Union locations throughout the Twin Cities, at Salvation Army Northern Division headquarters in Roseville (2445 Prior Ave. N.), or at any Salvation Army Worship and Service Center in the Twin Cities, Greater Minnesota and North Dakota (see list at bottom).

“Our goal is to distribute 30,000 winter coats for children in Minnesota and North Dakota,” said Lt. Col. Dan Jennings, leader of The Salvation Army Northern Division. “We encourage everyone to join in this important effort. No child should go without a coat this winter.”

A special Coats for Kids collection and celebration will take place at Keg and Case Market in Saint Paul on Saturday, Oct. 3 from 3-8 p.m. The collection will include a ceremony, live band, and special giving opportunities.

No coats to donate? No problem. You can also help by donating $20, which The Salvation Army will use to buy a brand-new coat for a local child in need.

Salvation Army Coats for Kids has been keeping children warm for over 30 years. In that time, donors have given over 400,000 coats and winter accessories to local families in need. Learn more at GiveCoats.org
