Today we shine the spotlight on Joseph McCollow and Yeinis Machado – two magnificent volunteers who have given hundreds of hours of their time at The Salvation Army in South Minneapolis.
We thank Joseph and Yeinis for supporting The Salvation Army’s mission of providing food, shelter and care for all who come to us in need.
Joseph McCollow
Joseph McCollow serves in the food pantry at the South Minneapolis Salvation Army every morning, Monday through Thursday. He has brought remarkable organization and efficiency to the distribution process, with a proactive approach that has streamlined food box deliveries and ensured all guests receive support with ease and dignity.
Joe’s heart for others was evident from the very start. When he first started volunteering, he approached the team with a simple but powerful request: to include personal hygiene items in food boxes. He believed that clean hair and brushed teeth could boost a person’s self-esteem.
He didn’t stop there. He later implemented a clothing closet and began stocking it with donated clothing, offering even more support to those in need. In addition, during the Red Kettle season he rings bells every Saturday to raise money for The Salvation Army.
Joe’s humility and generosity shine in everything he does. He leads by example, maintaining a healthy lifestyle through mindful eating and morning exercises. He cherishes time spent with his daughter and nephews, embodying the values of family, service, and kindness.
Joe’s dedication is making a lasting impact, and his presence is a true blessing to the community.
Yeinis Machado
Yeinis Machado is a dedicated and passionate volunteer who is always ready to serve wherever, whenever, and however she is needed.
She first connected with The Salvation Army through a backpack distribution program. From there, her involvement grew when she began attending church services and Bible studies at the South Minneapolis Salvation Army, deepening her faith and commitment to our mission of serving others in the name of Jesus Christ.
During the busy Red Kettle season, Yeinis has played a crucial role in preparing volunteer kettles and coordinating drivers' routes, ensuring a smooth and successful campaign.
Her dedication has never wavered. Even when she was pregnant and later caring for her newborn, she continued to give her time and energy to support The Salvation Army.
Beyond her logistical support, Yeinis brings a creative touch to everything she does. With exceptional decorating skills, she has taken the lead in planning and designing seasonal church celebrations, making each event special and welcoming.
Yeinis’ love for God and her incredible spirit of service make her a true blessing to the community.
