10K Construction Company is ‘Down for the Challenge’

Jul 9, 2025

As a rapidly-growing new business, 10K Construction in Coon Rapids was looking for ways to honor their success by giving back to the Twin Cities community.

The Salvation Army’s Down for the Challenge urban rappelling fundraiser – being held July 25-26 at the Omni Viking Lakes Hotel during Minnesota Vikings training camp – provided the perfect opportunity.

“Everyone has the same chance every day to get up and do something good,” said Craig Crayford (pictured), 10K CEO and co-owner. “Some people need that extra help – somebody to help them up along the way. That’s why I feel like this event is a good thing to do, to give that help.”

Crayford will be part of the 10K team rappelling during Down for the Challenge, raising money that provides shelter for the unhoused and helps families avoid eviction.

"It looks like fun,” Crayford added. “I’m a roofer by trade, so I’m up on a lot of roofs – but this looks like a thrill. Plus, the more people we see up there means we’re making an impression.”

10K Construction is also one of this year’s key event sponsors, providing a team of 10 people to participate in this important summer fundraiser to support Salvation Army programs.

Down For The Challenge is an event that we really wanted to be part of,” said Jake Iskierka, 10K Construction President and co-founder. “Finding ways to help our homeless neighbors – particularly our veterans – is very important to us.”

Several members of the 10K rappelling team are disabled veterans who started working for the company through its relationship with the Disabled American Veterans organization. This is the first year that individuals with disabilities will be able to rappel at Down for the Challenge.

10K is also supporting the event through a collaboration with the Minnesota Twins, encouraging the baseball team to support the Salvation Army’s fight against homelessness.

Funds raised for Down for the Challenge support local Salvation Army shelter and housing programs, which serve an average of 900 men, women and children every night. Currently, about 57,000 local households are behind on their rent, while more than 10,000 local people are experiencing homelessness.

The event will feature up to 150 motivated individuals to rappel 15 stories down the side of the Omni hotel by raising at least $1,000 with an easy-to-use peer-to-peer platform. The event has raised more than $2 million over the past four years.

You Down? Support The Salvation Army’s efforts to fight homelessness by signing up for our Down for the Challenge urban rappelling event or by giving a donation. This adrenaline-pumping event takes place July 25-26 at the Omni Viking Lakes Hotel during Minnesota Vikings training camp.
