Winter Warming Center open until April 1
In partnership with Olmsted County, the Rochester Salvation Army Winter Warming Center, 20 NE First Ave., will be open seven days a week beginning Friday, March 8 until Monday, April 1. Doors open at 7 p.m.
Individuals from Rochester and surrounding areas can check into the warming center for a warm bed, a place to store their belongings for the night, a light meal, a shower, and laundry facilities.
During this time, Olmsted County will be conducting a study to determine if a Winter Warming Shelter open from November through March would best serve the population of homeless individuals in Rochester.
In-kind donations are needed to sustain the warming center for 24 consecutive nights – which is twice as long as the center has ever been open during a single stretch. Please consider donating any of the following:
- Individually packaged granola bars
- Bottles of water or Gatorade
- Camping gear such as tents and bed rolls
- Socks and underwear
“We’re really looking to the community for support this month,” said Alex Hurlebaus, Warming Center Coordinator. “And if any local businesses are willing to donate food for these people, that would be an incredible help as well.”
The Salvation Army would like to express gratitude to Canadian Honker, Potbelly Sandwich Shop, Moka, Caribou Coffee, and Pasquale’s for generously donating food to the warming center this winter.
