The Breast Clinic at the Good Sam
The Rochester Salvation Army’s Good Samaritan Health Clinic (the Good Sam) is proud to announce that it is partnering with Sage Screening Programs and the Mayo clinic to provide breast exams and mammograms for uninsured and under insured women in our community.
This initiative started 1 year ago as a referral system to get women from the Good Sam through the doors of the Mayo clinic. The problem with this system was that women would have to attend 3 separate appointments in addition to their regular visits to the Good Sam to make it that far.
Now, the Good Sam is working with Mayo physicians to set up a twice monthly Breast Clinic at The Salvation Army, where doctors can meet with female patients, give breast exams on the spot, and schedule their mammograms at the Mayo clinic all in the same appointment.
Hundreds of women come through the doors of the Good Sam every year, women that have sacrificed their health due to difficult financial circumstances. Our hope for this new program is that it will break down the barriers to women’s health care for our neighbors in need.
