Added on Friday, August 2, 2013

The Degree of Honor Foundation will hold its 19th annual Charity Golf Tournament on Aug. 12 at Hillcrest Country Club in St. Paul. Proceeds fund Booth Brown House, a nearby Salvation Army youth shelter. Registration is being accepted through Aug. 7 by calling Michelle Alberg at 651-228-7621.

“No matter what the weather, it’s always beautiful the day of the golf tournament,” said Major Arnel Ruppel, Booth Brown House administrator. “Golfers have fun, and the money raised goes to helping important services.”

Past Degree of Honor tournaments have raised a total of more than $520,000 for Salvation Army and Honor Foundation programs.

The Degree of Honor Foundation is a national partner whose work supports many Salvation Army units.

Booth Brown House provides emergency shelter for up to 11 homeless youth ages 18 to 21; most nights the facility is filled to capacity. It also provides stable and affordable housing for 16- to 25-year-olds, providing support and resources to help them transition to independence.

The Degree of Honor Foundation financially supports the educational and social needs of its members and communities. The group encourages responsible charitable planning and helps donors achieve their financial goals of giving.

“We are immensely grateful to the Degree of Honor Foundation for holding this event,” Ruppel said. “So much good happens because of their generosity.”

Online financial gifts to the Booth Brown House are always welcome; specify BBH in the Specific Use field. Checks can be mailed to the Booth Brown House at 1471 Como Ave. W., St. Paul, MN 55108.
