Written by Julie Borgen, Twin Cities Media Relations Director for The Salvation Army Northern Division
How can you have fun, support a great cause and earn a free ticket to the Minnesota State Fair? It’s easy, volunteer to help fair goers park their cars at The Salvation Army’s Booth Brown House in St. Paul during the Great Minnesota Get Together.
From Aug. 24 through Sept. 4, State Fair goers can park for $15 on the grounds of Booth Brown House at 1471 Como Ave. W., just three blocks east of the fairgrounds.
There are three volunteer shifts for 4-5 people available every day of the fair: 7:45 a.m.- 12 p.m.; 11:45 a.m.- 4 p.m.; 3:45 – 8 p.m.
Volunteers share the duties of collecting cash from drivers, directing them into the lot and into specific parking spaces. Training, water, coffee and snacks will all be provided on site.
Wear comfortable shoes and come prepared to get your steps in! Volunteers must be 16 or older (12 and over can volunteer with an an adult), able to stand for the entire shift, as well as walk around the lot.
The proceeds from parking go to support Booth Brown House, The Salvation Army’s youth shelter and supportive housing program (related story).
