About 15 percent of the homeless population is comprised of "chronically homeless" Individuals.

This population is most vulnerable during the hottest and coldest months of the year.

Our doors are always open.

Each year, The Salvation Army provides over 10 million nights of lodging to those in need. Our group homes, emergency shelters, and transitional living centers provide housing, food, and overnight lodging for varying amounts of time to destitute families, the homeless, the displaced, and to youth where family care is undesirable or unavailable. Through our holistic approach to serving the whole person, we supplement every shelter service with emotional and spiritual support.

Give the gift of a good night's sleep. You can help.

Emergency Shelters

For those looking to escape extreme cold, intense heat, torrential rain, or just wanting a a safe, quiet place to spend the night, The Salvation Army provides a nutritious meal, a warm bed and a clean shower. In Minneapolis, Harbor Light Center serves as our emergency shelter and is Minnesota's largest homeless shelter.

Group Homes and Transitional Living Centers

Along with meeting immediate physical needs of food and shelter, these establishments provide educational, counseling and vocational services to help develop vital life skills and independence for re-entry into society. In the Twin Cities, we have a shelter for homeless youth (Booth Brown House), a senior housing facility (Booth Manor) and HOPE Harbor, our efficiency apartment complex next to Harbor Light Center.

Family Service Programs

The Salvation Army assists families with temporal needs by providing food, housing, and utility assistance. Best of all, these programs enable mothers to stay with their children (boys and girls), even when placed in emergency shelters.
