Red Kettles kick off in Duluth with help from mayor Emily Larson
Duluth Mayor Emily Larson helped The Salvation Army kick off the 2020 kettle season on Friday, Nov. 13 by proclaiming the day to be ‘Red Kettle Day’ in the city of Duluth (video at bottom). In addition, the historic Enger Tower was lit red in honor of the Duluth Salvation Army and the red kettles. (Sign up to ring or donate now.)
This year’s red kettle initiative is being called “Rescue Christmas” for the most vulnerable. The overall goal for the Duluth Salvation Army is to raise $215,000 in the kettles during the Rescue Christmas initiative.
The kettle season is the Duluth Salvation Army’s biggest fundraiser of the year, with all proceeds assisting thousands of local people in need. This year’s campaign is at risk due to COVID-19 concerns, while at the same time requests for services are at an all-time high. The Salvation Army could serve up to 155 percent more people in 2020 with Christmas assistance, including putting food on the table, paying bills, providing shelter, and helping place gifts under the tree.
Red kettles will appear at the following locations in Duluth from Saturday, Nov. 14 – Thursday, Dec. 24:
- Cub Foods
- Hobby Lobby
- Miller Hill Mall (four kettle locations)
- Mills Fleet Farm
- Mount Royal Fine Foods
- Super One Foods (five locations)
- Walgreens
- Sam’s Club (begins Nov. 21)
- Walmart (two locations; both begin Nov. 21)

- Enlist in Love’s Army by donating today at DuluthSA.org with a one-time gift or a monthly sustaining gift of $25.
- Ask Amazon Alexa to donate by saying, “Alexa, donate to The Salvation Army,” then specify the amount.
- Give any amount by texting “KETTLES” to 91999.
- Round-up at Walmart between now and Dec. 31.
- Checks can be mailed or dropped off at the Duluth Salvation Army, 215 South 27th Ave. West, Duluth, MN 55806. (All visitors must wear a mask inside.)
