The Big Brass Blast

The Big Brass Blast

The Big Brass Blast on Friday, Nov. 17 will be a one-night event at the Mall of America Rotunda, where brass musicians will gather to perform several traditional Christmas songs along with a brand-new Christmas music arrangement by internationally-renowned composer, Stephen Bulla. Bulla will be conducting the performance, which begins at 7 p.m.

Any brass musician over age 16 is eligible to participate and can sign up using our online registration form. Sign up as an individual, as a band or with family and friends. Come and be a part of something big!

Musician Details

We need musicians to play the following parts: Cornet/Trumpet, Flugelhorn, Tenor Horn (Eb Horn), Baritone, Trombone, Euphonium, BB Bass/Tuba and Eb Bass/Tuba. Music will be scored in both bass and treble clef, in the British Brass Band style. Participants will need to provide two part preferences. We will make every effort to assign all participants their first choice in instrument part, but our priority will be to assign parts so that a good balance of instrumentation and part coverage is achieved.

The cost to participate is $5 per person. Proceeds from the event will benefit The Salvation Army’s poverty-fighting programs.

After you sign up, event organizers will review your registration and send you a follow-up confirmation email to the address provided with your part assignment and a link to download sheet music for the event.

Please plan to arrive at 5 p.m. for check in, followed by warm ups and rehearsal. The performance will begin at 7 p.m. Be sure to invite family and friends to come and share in the fun!

Optional: Saturday, Nov. 18 Involvement

We’d love to have Big Brass Blast participants help us start the iconic red kettle season with music in the air. If you are available on Saturday, Nov. 18, please consider signing up to ring a bell and play your instrument at a Twin Cities red kettle location. You can volunteer alone, with your band, or with family and friends. Shifts are available in two-hour or three-hour increments, or take the whole day.

During a typical kettle shift, our bell ringing volunteers help us raise at least $30 per hour – which is enough to provide a family with two bags of groceries or shelter an individual for a night.

If you’d like to sign up, visit our bell ringing registration website and select a shift for Saturday, Nov. 18. Please indicate “Big Brass Blast” in the optional group name field, along with your group name if applicable.
