Ribbons, lights, beautifully-wrapped packages, and joyful gatherings. This is the picture painted of the holiday season, which is often and rightfully called “the most wonderful time of the year.” But, what’s left unspoken in the iconic stories and songs is the unfortunate truth that, for some, the holidays can actually be the most difficult time of the year.

Let’s pause to remember that this year there may be people around us who are hurting. Some may have lost a loved one and are celebrating without them for the first time. Some may feel lonely and isolated from family. Some may be battling a life-threatening illness. Others may not know where their next meal will come from. Being sensitive to these unfortunate circumstances will help us recognize when someone we know needs a little encouragement. It also sets a tone for the season of recognizing blessings in our own lives.

Pray With Us

Here is a simple prayer for those experiencing difficulty this holiday season:

“Lord, thank you for being a healer and a comforter. Thank you for seeing our pain even when there are no words to express it. Please help me to see others through your eyes. I lift up those who are hurting today. Give me the discernment to know how I can help them through their difficulty.”
