Roseville, Minn. - The season of giving is upon us and there has never been a better time than now to support the Twin Cities Salvation Army.
On Dec. 16 -17, all donations, including those made in kettles, online, mailed or called in (651-746-3496 or 1-800-SALARMY) will be TRIPLE-matched up to $1.5 million. (Triple your gift online Friday and Saturday.) You can also text to give by texting “TRIPLE” to 41444.
That means your $30 donation becomes $90, $100 turns into $300 and so on. It’s a chance to make your gifts go three times as far.
“The Triple Match comes at a critical time for The Salvation Army,” said Lt. Col. Richardson, leader of The Salvation Army Northern Division. ” This is a time when it is a matter of life and death for individuals who are homeless and depending on The Salvation Army for shelter. The Triple Match is one of the ways the Army funds it’s food, shelter and programs for children year round. So, please help us help those who are less fortunate in our community.”
The $1.5 million gift comes from individual and corporate donors, including $250,000 from the Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation. A long-time supporter of The Salvation Army, Schulze founded Best Buy and grew up in St. Paul. The Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation was established in 2004.
The Twin Cities Salvation Army has raised less than $4 million so far in its Christmas Campaign, toward its $11.6 million goal for the season. Cold weather and fewer volunteers have also hindered their red kettles– making now the perfect opportunity for people to donate and have their gifts do three times as much good.
Bell ringers move inside
Because of the frigid weather, bell ringers have been given special permission to ring inside at all Cub locations in the metro area, as well as at Festival Foods and Coborns during the triple match on Dec. 16-17. Sign up to be a volunteer bell ringer at SalvationArmyNorth.org/ring, or by calling 651-746-3519.
Opportunities to Give
To make the most of this triple match opportunity The Salvation Army also has the following events happening on Dec. 16:
- It’s Celebrity Day at Mall of America®! From 9 a.m.- 9 p.m. dozens of local celebrities will be bell ringing in the Rotunda, signing autographs and posing for pictures with fans.
- Kat Perkins, semi-finalist on NBC’s “The Voice” will sing songs from her new Christmas album from 1 p.m.- 2 p.m. in the Rotunda at MOA.®
- Chris Hawkey will Rock the Red Kettle with a free, live performance in the Rotunda, from 7 p.m.- 9 p.m.
- Buck the Boot with the Minneapolis Fire Department. Also on Dec. 16, from 11 a.m.- 7 p.m., Minneapolis firefighters will be bell ringing at 7 locations on Hennepin Ave. between 11th and 5th. Instead of a red kettle, they will take donations in a boot!
