Programs and Services

When hard times hit, make the Rochester Salvation Army your first call. No matter what the need – physical, emotional or spiritual – we’re here to help.

From meeting your most basic needs to outlining the path to long-term solutions, we can help you overcome the obstacles you face today and provide hope for tomorrow.

Local programs and services include:

 Supplemental Food Shelf

As a satellite location for the Channel One Regional Food Bank, we’re able to distribute food to those in need. We’re open Tuesdays and Fridays from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at 120 First St. NE (view map). Participants can come once per month to pick up food, except during summer months when two monthly visits are allowed.

Emergency Assistance

We offer basic needs services including showers, toiletries, and clothing vouchers by appointment. Through our main office, we can also provide housing guides and applications for rental assistance, HeatShare utility assistance, and transportation assistance to and from a job. Lunch Program

A free lunch is served weekdays from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Worship and Service Center lunchroom located at 20 NE First Ave. (view map).

Monday Evening Meal

Dinner is served Monday evenings from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the Worship and Service Center lunchroom located at 20 NE First Ave. (view map).

 Bread Distribution

Our guests are welcome to take free bread from our bread cupboard located at 20 NE First Ave. (view map). Baked goods are collected from local grocers and bakeries to stock our shelf at 8:00 a.m. on weekdays. Learn more about this program.

 Caring Partners Adult Day Program

Our Caring Partners Adult Day Program provides specialized support and care to adults 18 and older. Open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., the Caring Partners program provides activities throughout the day including lunch. Pick-up and drop-off of guests is available. Transitional Housing

Our Transitional Living & Counseling (TLC) program provides affordable housing to at-risk families in need of help with basic living skills. Families pay income-based rent. The program helps families with goals in education, parenting and budgeting for up to two years with the hope of attaining permanent housing, full-time employment and a more stable family life. Permanent, Supportive Housing

Our Castleview Apartments are a permanent, supportive housing complex in Rochester for single adults who are low-income, chronically homeless or disabled. The facility offers 24-hour supervision, social support services and life-skills education programs. Apartments include a bathroom, closet, kitchen and bedroom. Good Samaritan Health Clinic

Our Good Samaritan Health Clinic offers medical and dental care to those who are under-insured or have no insurance. Read more information.

Smoking Cessation Clinic

The Smoking Cessation Clinic is a free, professionally-staffed service to help Rochester community residents stop smoking or chewing to improve their health. Learn about the program and how to get help on the Smoking Cessation Clinic page.

 Youth Character-Building and Music Programs

From weekly programming to summer camps, The Salvation Army is dedicated to providing opportunities for area youth to connect with others and grow with encouragement. Our teen ministry and character-building programs meet Tuesday nights from 4 to 7 p.m. We have a variety of music opportunities for youth including a band, singing, guitar and puppets.  Spiritual Services and Fellowship

At its heart, The Salvation Army is a church. We offer spiritual services and fellowship to equip our church members to meet the spiritual, physical and emotional needs of people in our community. Join us Sunday mornings for breakfast, Sunday School, a morning worship service and Junior Church.  Seasonal Assistance

We offer seasonal programs to help with specialized needs throughout the year such as tax preparation, back-to-school supplies (Tools for Schools), winter coats, Thanksgiving and Christmas meals, and holiday toys for children (Prison Toy Lift, Toy & Joy Shop, Christmas Shopping Trip).
