When hard times hit, make us your first call. No matter what the need – physical, emotional or spiritual — we’re here to help.

Local programs and services include:

We provide supportive assistance to individuals and families in an emergency situation in Blue Earth County and in the city North Mankato. We help identify other community resources which may provide additional help. Services we offer may include help with ID and birth certificates, clothing, houseware items, one way bus ticket for relocation proposes only, financial assistance for eviction, utilities, auto repairs (mechanical failures only), gas vouchers for out of county medical appointment or brand-new employment if you have not received your 1st paycheck, and medical prescriptions. This is a free, year-long meal program offered five days a week, Monday - Friday from Noon to 1 p.m. at The Salvation Army Kitchen, 700 S. Riverfront Dr. Free bread and bakery items are also distributed during this time. This program is available to anyone in need of fellowship and a nutritious meal.

Annually thousands meals are served, most of which are the only meal people in need receive for the day.

The day shelter provides a safe place to rest for individuals and families experiencing homelessness. The shelter is open 5 days a week in summer months and 7 days a week during the winter from 9am-5pm. Immediate services include showers, laundry, WIFI, computer, and  telephone. The day shelter staff provide all the necessary items for showers and laundry. Long term services include case management with coordinated entry assessments and referrals to outside supportive agencies. 

The Bundle Me Warm program offers new and gently used coats and winter outer apparel to children and adults. This free program is available to everyone in need. Please call main line for more information.

We provide a variety of services to make the holidays brighter.

We also supply low-income families with Christmas food baskets, so they can have a well-rounded Christmas dinner at home.

Maxfield Place is a permanent, supportive housing program for adults with a diagnosed disability who are considered chronically homeless.

There are 10 individual semi - furnished apartments for single adults which include a bed, full kitchen and bathroom. Residents cook and prepare their own meals and do their own laundry. Rents are affordable, and pay 30% of their gross earned income. Maxfield Place is an alcohol, drug and smoke free property, with 10 efficiency apartments designed for single individuals who can live independently.

Referrals/Advocacy: Maxfield Place Supportive Services Staff provide comprehensive, resident-directed advocacy to optimize each residents opportunity for success. Maxfield Place Director and Service Coordinators works to connect residents with benefits, mental health and medical services, legal assistance, applying for social security benefits, recovery support, transportation and other services to help the residents achieve and maintain self-sufficiency.

Life Skills: Many of Maxfield Place residents have either lost or never had the daily living skills necessary to maintain housing and employment, such as making a budget, paying bills, balancing a checkbook, grocery shopping, simple cooking or time management. Maxfield Place Service Coordinators meet with residents to help them develop these basic skills.

Job Search & Placement: Maxfield Place provides hands-on job search and placement assistance to residents. Residents receive clothing for interviews, bus passes and other resources to help them gain and maintain employment. Maxfield Place is also engaged in a series of programs and initiatives designed to foster independence among those in need while providing a foundation for supports.

Maxfield Place is staffed 24 hours a day, and employs Service Coordinators and Case Workers, who helps residents develop a long-term plan and collaborates with other service providers for referrals. Since 2006, The Salvation Army has worked with the Office of Housing and Urban Development to support the program. Acceptance into Maxfield Place is through Coordinated Entry. At Maxfield Place, we are here to support you with personalized services that inspire hope, change lives and build a stronger community.

When disasters strike, our volunteer team provides emotional support and relief to the affected communities. We respond to floods, fires, tornadoes and any other type of disaster by deploying a mobile kitchen fully loaded with meals and supplies for families, emergency crews and others on the scene.
