Mobile kitchens ready for Friday deployment
The Fargo Salvation Army will deploy a fleet of mobile kitchens on Friday, April 26 to distribute sandwiches, snacks and beverages to volunteers laying sandbags in the Fargo area.
Unlike earlier support The Salvation Army gave at Sandbag Central, this latest assistance will put Salvation Army crews on the road. Volunteers in mobile kitchens will travel through flood zones to areas where walls of sandbags are being constructed.
“When crews need a break from their heavy lifting, we’ll be right there,” said Major Harold Baugh, leader of the Fargo Salvation Army.
Original National Weather Service predictions for the Red River were at disastrous flood-stage levels. The slow spring thaw and lack of rain have the newest forecasts at safer levels, although area residents are being told to stay alert.
“Floods are unpredictable,” said Baugh. “We can’t control the weather, but The Salvation Army is flexible and ready to serve wherever the need arises.”
