Blog: A love beyond words is evident in action
Written by Majors Bill and Betsy Cox, officers at the Duluth Salvation Army.
Every February, it’s a mad dash to find that Valentine’s Day card or gift for our love ones. Finding the right words or the right type of gift that conveys our affection is always a challenge.
In our previous appointment there was a “barber shop quartet” that would bring a singing telegram, which was unique and special. But in each of these attempts it’s about words or a physical present, neither of which has the impact of love being demonstrated, other than the fact that we remembered it was Valentine’s Day.
In Romans 5:8, one of my favorite books of the Bible, it says, “…God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
Since God is the author of love, 1 John 4:7 says, “for love comes from God,” let us love one another. Let us embrace a love that goes beyond words and moves into action, both to those we know and to those we do not know, after all God loved us while we were “yet sinners” and gave His one and only Son to prove it.
Our prayer for you this Valentine’s Day is the prayer found in Ephesians 3:3:17b-19a, “And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge…”
