2017 Individual Volunteer of the Year winner: Keith Ableiter
The Salvation Army is celebrating Keith Ableiter (pictured), winner of the 2017 Individual Volunteer in the Northern Division.
Ableiter has not only been a tireless volunteer for more than five years, but he has completely transformed own his life. He graduated from The Salvation Army’s Adult Rehabilitation Center in 2009, after having spent most of his life in and out of prison for drug-related crimes.
Today, Ableiter helps lead a Salvation Army program he co-founded called VAST: Volunteer After Care Support Team. It connects people coming out of prison with mentors and other resources to help them rebuild their lives (see related story).
He also goes into the prisons to help minister to men who will be released soon, knowing that community connections are essential for helping people stay out of prison.
Today, Ableiter is also an active member of The Salvation Army church, sharing the love of Jesus Christ both as a youth leader and a worship team member.
The Salvation Army is proud to honor Keith Ableiter for his contributions as a volunteer.
