Prayer written in e-News story plays out in real life
On March 3, we sent our e-News subscribers a story titled Prayer Topic: The Hungry. The story challenged readers to be proactive in helping people in need of food. It also included a prayer to recite.
The next day, one of the subscribers – we’ll call her Linda – emailed us this curious note:
I thought you may be encouraged to hear how the Lord used an email you sent to me. Please call me at your convenience.
We dialed Linda right away, and she told us this heartwarming story:
Soon after we sent the e-News story, Linda read it in her kitchen and recited the prayer. Later on, she left her home in the Twin Cities suburbs to attend a women’s group she’d been involved with since September.
During the group meeting, Linda noticed a lady there who hadn’t attended since fall. Linda wondered why the lady had stopped coming.
When the meeting ended, Linda took a chance and asked the lady if she needed a ride home. The lady said yes, that she had walked to the meeting.
During the car ride, Linda asked the lady if she needed to stop anywhere on the way home. The lady said yes, that she needed to pick up some medicine at a drug store. Linda accompanied the lady into the store and offered to pay for her medicine. The lady accepted.
As the two women continued driving, Linda asked the lady if she needed to stop anywhere else. The lady said yes, that she needed to pick up some food at the grocery store. Linda accompanied the lady into the grocery store and offered to pay for her food. The lady accepted.
The two women finally arrived at the lady’s home. As the lady got out of Linda’s car, she expressed how thankful she was for Linda’s help, saying she’d fallen on hard times and didn’t have much money.
“She said she was grateful and blessed for the help I gave,” Linda said. “I thanked her for allowing me to bless her.”
The women smiled at each other, and the lady went on her way.
As Linda drove home, something struck her: Every word she had recited in the e-News prayer had played out in real life.
The prayer read:
Heavenly Father, I am so blessed to have access to wholesome food and clean water today. For those who don’t – whether down the street or halfway around the world – please strengthen them and meet that need today. Please show me what little thing I can do to change this fate for somebody. Amen.
Linda then realized that the lady she had just helped had been an answer to the prayer. God had showed Linda “what little thing” she could do, and Linda had done it.
“When we step out in our faith – even if it’s just a small, simple thing – the Lord is able to work through us in remarkable ways,” Linda said.
