Housing forum tackles barriers for ex-offenders
Media Contact: Julie Borgen, Twin Cities Media Relations Director for The Salvation Army Northern Division
What: Ex-offender Housing Forum
When: April 13, 10 a.m. – Noon
The Salvation Army invites community re-entry housing advocates and residential program managers to attend an open forum to discuss the barriers to housing for ex-offenders in the Twin Cities. The goal is to create a dialogue and strategize on solutions together.
“Despite their efforts to rehabilitate their lives, convicted felons often find it difficult to find stable, approved housing, once landlords conduct criminal background checks,” said John Hulteen (pictured), a corrections chaplain with The Salvation Army.
Failure to stay in appropriate housing can lead to a parole violation and land people back in prison.
The Salvation Army is committed to helping ex-offenders create a productive, positive future (see related story). Housing is an essential piece of that puzzle.
Please join the conversation and help us create solutions that keep motivated ex-offenders out of prison and functioning as productive members of society.
