UPDATE: Saint Grand has struck 16 times
Saint Grand is back.
For the third straight Christmas season, a mystery Minnesotan affectionately known as Saint Grand is dropping $1,000 donations into kettles found in the Twin Cities and Greater Minnesota. He or she always gives the same way: a neat bundle of 10 crisp $100 bills.
Saint Grand has struck 16 times since Nov. 29. The most recent gifts came Saturday, Dec. 21 at two kettle locations – Byerly’s in Roseville, and either Walmart or Walgreen’s in Maple Grove (sorry – with 500 kettles in the Twin Cities, things can get confusing).
“I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – this is not a publicity stunt,” said Major Jeff Strickler, Twin Cities Salvation Army commander. “With two more days of bell ringing left, we are anxious to find out if Saint Grand has even more good things in store.”
Saint Grand first broke onto the scene in 2011, giving 22 $1,000 donations in the Twin Cities and one more in Greater Minnesota. Last Christmas the serial giver struck 18 times in the Twin Cities and four times in Greater Minnesota.
Despite Saint Grand’s wonderful gifts and an historic two-day, $2 million matching opportunity last Friday and Saturday, the Twin Cities Salvation Army still needs an additional $3 million to reach its $10.8 million goal by Dec. 31.
