2012 bell ringing season starts Saturday with Kettle Kickoff

Added on Friday, November 9, 2012

Roseville, Minn. – The 2012 bell ringing season starts this Saturday, Nov. 10, at the Twin Cities Salvation Army’s “Rock the Red Kettle” kickoff event at Cub Foods in south Minneapolis, 5937 Nicollet Ave.

After a 7:50 a.m. ceremony, 108 “Rock Star” volunteers and their friends will attempt to raise a record-setting $108,000 by bell ringing at 108 kettles for 10 hours and 8 minutes. All kettle locations will be at Twin Cities metro area Cub Foods stores, Mall of America and Rocco Altobelli Salons & DaySpas. As an added giving incentive, Cub Foods will double kettle donations with $10,000 worth of matching funds.

Each of the 108 Rock Stars agreed to raise $1,000 for the Twin Cities Salvation Army by collecting donations online and recruiting enough friends to ring bells at one kettle the entire day.

The Twin Cities Salvation Army’s Christmas fundraising goal is $9.8 million. Now through Christmas Eve, there are 100,000 hours of bell ringing available at more than 400 Twin Cities kettle sites.

“Make that 99,000 hours, thanks to our Rock Stars and their friends – they’ll all be bell ringing an estimated 1,000 hours on Saturday,” said Major Jeff Strickler, Twin Cities Salvation Army Commander. “We appreciate our Rock Stars for headlining what is sure to be a record-setting kettle kickoff event.”

“Rock on,” he added.
